web developer, graphic artist
I am a web developer, software programmer, and graphic artist based out of Spokane, Washington. I approach projects with enthusiasm and determination. A background rich in customer service means I will do what it takes to satisfy a client's needs. I am proficient in both front end and back end web development, and I'm comfortable learning new frameworks, programming languages, and practices as needed for clients that want even more customization for their little corner of the web.
My web development experience began as custom building simple webpages back in the early 2000's. I pursued it formally in my education at Eastern Washington University, where I earned a Computer Science degree (with a minor in graphic design). I have worked professionally in game development and application development, but focused most of my professional time on web development, where I've worked for clients ranging from bloggers on up to Fortune 500 companies.
Professionally:
I'm eager to get my hands on new toys. I enjoy taking on challenges I haven't faced before. There is something fulfilling about approaching a problem from a new perspective and finding a solution. Those "ah-ha!" moments in programming are the best moments in my professional life. I'm always looking for new challenges and love to get my hands dirty trying things with code that I haven't done before.
Personally:
I like a good cold beer and a messy cheeseburger. I like science fiction novels, television and movies. I like playing sports, though I'm moving a bit slower these days. I like Opening Day at Safeco Field and Seahawks Sundays. I like writing short stories, but I'm not keen to share. I love live music and go to concerts big and small year round. I like sitting on my couch with my feet on the coffee table.
Fully responsive website redesign on the Joomla CMS, creating custom templates based on designer provided comps.
Pixel-perfect recreations of designer comps (CSS, HTML) covering multiple template designs. Frequent logo and image adjustments in Photoshop and Illustrator. Monthly maintenance fee covered content management as well, so I regularly posted blog items for them as they came through. Mobile specifications were not provided, so we aimed to make it look good while preserving the designer's work.

The National Picks League is a simple fantasy football application I developed to entertain myself and my friends for 17 weeks out of the year. I track user picks, head-to-head results, write articles for each week, and provide all artwork and design on the site. The site began as basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and everything was hardcoded. Eventually I switched to PHP and MySQL to make record tracking easier.
The current iteration is a Wordpress site with custom plugins for creating write-ups, entering results, setting schedules, and viewing submitted picks.
xTeam logos, badges, pins, and other items are all designed in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
This is forever a work-in-progress that I use to keep my skills sharp in-between web development and graphic design jobs. And because of it's work-in-progress nature, some things are left non-functional while I tinker with other things. Functionality is really only important here (as I am the client, I suppose) during the football season.
Single-page web-app development using Heroku and PhoneGap, with Cordova plugins for image and video upload.
Style (CSS) and layout design (HTML) throughout, as well as some API work (jQuery) for user logins/logouts and registrations.

A design company, Theory.co, reached out to us to help them meet a deadline when their developer(s) were unavailable. We were tasked with creating pages, interactive elements, and hooks into real-time statistics provided by Turner. The site was built in Squarespace.
Responsive style (CSS) and layout design (HTML) on the main page, schedule, and head-to-head results pages, as well as the footer, based on provided comps from Theory.co. Stats reporting after matches was done through JavaScript and JSON. The tournament leaders section perhaps has my biggest fingerprints on it. Some JavaScript work was provided for user notifications as well.
